Flip-Flop Back in Fashion with the GOP

Sep
17

I mean, if every 4 years they're going to run a schizoid campaign, shouldn't they warn us first?

John ('McFlipFlop') McCain is now for regulation before he was against it:

A decade ago, Sen. John McCain embraced legislation to broadly deregulate the banking and insurance industries...

Thoughts on McCain's Convention Speech: Total Snoozer

Sep

Unstable/Unable '08 Total snoozer. Even as someone in the opposition, I'm completely dissatisfied.

It seemed like a chore -- something he had to get through rather than a pivotal moment in the campaign to elect the next president of the United States.

If it were a movie, we'd all be asking for our money back.

On the bright side, at least we won't be hearing from the RNC for another four years!

Not Your Mother's Fascism

Aug

I never got this 'Fascism' thing among the rightwingers -- unless they conceive of it as some kind of dance step or fashion accessory.

The appeal to authority and misuse of national and religious symbols are so much part of their operating procedure that there's nothing much left to accuse us poor liberals of. [h/t Rick Perlstein]

Trial Lawyers and Trial Lawyers

Apr

It occurs to me that when McCain and other Republicans complain about "trial lawyers", they don't mean all trial lawyers. They don't mean the trial lawyers working for Corporate America -- the kind who go under the name of "Corporate Counsel" and do things like issue 'Cease and Desist Letters'.

No, they mean the ones that might theoretically represent you or me -- not the ones that might represent their own friends.

The oratory would just kill us:

"The most important lesson I learned here was that to sustain my self-respect for a lifetime it would be necessary for me to have the honor of serving something greater than my self-interest..."

Not Your Ronald Reagan or Newt Gingrich America

If Oberweis does lose -- and no candidate was ever more deserving of such a fate -- it's due at least in part to the lousy NRCC ads that they kept running incessantly on the airwaves.

They were all about that "liberal" Foster and how he was going to spend all that money on "government-run health care".
