George Bush with an assist from the 'It Regulates Itself' Republicans is doing to the country what he did to Harken Oil. From Reuter's:
Between the $29 billion the Fed pledged to swing the Bear Stearns sale to JPMorgan in March, $100 billion apiece to rescue mortgage finance firms Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, up to $300 billion for the Federal Housing Authority, Tuesday's $85 billion loan to insurer AIG and various other rescue deals and loans, taxpayers are potentially on the hook for more than $900 billion.
All the while, Commandante McCain is running around together with side-kick, Ms. Bullwinkle-hater, claiming paying taxes isn't patriotic. I kind of agree but only because I think it's even more basic than that: paying taxes is just like paying all your other bills -- you do it because you're an adult. The children running the Republican Party have never identified this as a requirement for government. In fact, their whole schticht is that you can get everything for free.
No wonder then they always leave government in a financial mess.
