Bill Strong, McCain's finance chair in Illinois, actually told this with a straight face to Chicago Public Radio:
When you've got a great ticket like that we've got to get on message and we've been hearing this throughout the convention, reform, prosperity, peace. In order to get that message out, the fuel of a campaign is first great candidates, great ideas, but then you need the money to actually get that message out to the American people.
