SEIU 73 Nurses on Strike at UIC

Sep
17

Stopped by the striking nurses at UIC this afternoon. There were union groups on both the east and west campus but the majority were naturally on the west side near the medical center. They were nice enough to give me one of their 'SEIU 73' buttons! Great people!

Media: Lock-outs Okay; Strikes Bad

Apr
02

It was just last Friday (i.e. 3/25) that CPS management went out on strike -- opps, I mean, proclaimed a furlough day. How come the media didn't ask parents/teachers/kids how they'd be inconvenienced and how the kids were losing out -- on that Friday before 4/1? Strange that.

Great time at the Citizen Action Annual Dinner. Probably one of the few events at the Hilton beginning with a brief eulogy for a member of the hotel staff.

Indiana GOPers planning race to bottom

Jan
24

Scumbags:

Many of the measure’s supporters also see an advantage in Indiana’s geography: It borders only non-right-to-work states and would be the only Midwestern industrial state to have such a law. “I think whichever of the Midwest states does it first will have an edge in terms of job growth and bringing new employment,” says Republican Representative Jerry Torr, the bill’s House sponsor. “Michigan and Ohio would probably fall like dominoes shortly after because they would have to in order to compete.”

UPDATE: And how appropriate that the Chief Scumbag among them is giving the GOPer Response to the SOTU. Says everything.

UPDATE: From John Nichols :

On Tuesday, Daniels will take his hypocrisy national. And in so doing he will make it abundantly clear that the Republican Party is committed to union busting as an economic and political strategy.
