Really sad news: Ken Swanborn passed away. I had the great fortune of meeting Ken at a number of grassroot events both social and political. I always appreciated his extremely positive and friendly personality. You can see Ken here in a leafleting action we did for the DNC a couple of years ago. Ken is in the middle.

The wonderful people at Citizen Action IL had their annual dinner on Friday. Co-Directors Lynda DeLaforgue and William McNary presided. IL Attorney General Lisa Madigan was this year's honoree. Attendees included candidate for Congress Debbie Halvorson and grassroots Candidate for State Rep Daniel Biss.

Talk about 'disrespectful'? The official spokesperson on Education for John McCain called the people learning to be teachers in our Schools of Education nothing but a bunch of 'low-achieving students'. Here's the quote:

Stop the McCain/Palin Corruption Express - Vote Obama!

Good weather seems to have eluded the arrival of GOP Presidential Candidate John McCain during his fundraiser held today at the Hilton.

Across the street, the rain didn't diminish any of the spirit of us Chicagoans who came to give him a proper reception. The signs said "Bush McCain - More of the Same" and that's pretty much what we chanted to media and passers-by alike for close to an hour.

The ever eloquent William McNary from Citizen Action was there to express to the media probably what all of us felt: McCain is bad news for America.

Bill Strong, McCain's finance chair in Illinois, actually told this with a straight face to Chicago Public Radio:

I dunno, I keep hearing that Fannie/Freddie were ways the Chinese et al. could funnel money back to us so we could buy more goods from them.

That's pretty much the message of the segment on today's Morning Edition entitled, "U.S.-China Cash Flow Depends On Fannie, Freddie".

That's one way of looking at it.
