So apparently all the food deserts elsewhere in the city have been filled:
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has found a site for its first small-box store in Chicago, with a deal to lease about 30,000 square feet in a three-level retail center in the Lakeview neighborhood, according to real estate sources.
The North Side store, which would be a Neighborhood Market focusing on groceries, also would be Wal-Mart's first in an affluent neighborhood in the city." [Eddie Baeb, "Wal-Mart finds site for first North Side store", Crain's Chicago Business]
They want to move into space on Surf & Bway formerly occupied by either the Hollywood Video or camera store.
So gee, lemme see, there's the Jewel on Bway & Addison, the Treasure Island on Cornelia, the Market Place on Diversey, the Lincoln Park Supermarket further south on Clark -- as well as that replacement Dominick's they're supposed to be building a mere three blocks further north -- how does something like this affect the people working in all those places? What's the record been up to now?
