Swann Song of the McCain Campaign

Everyone's talking about McCain's impending shift to a more sleazy campaign. It's the underlining assumption of the WaPo article that people have been quoting:

With just a month to go until Election Day, McCain's team has decided that its emphasis on the senator's biography as a war hero, experienced lawmaker and straight-talking maverick is insufficient to close a growing gap with Obama.

My question is, so when was the McCain Campaign not about sleaze? That's been the focus until they got up-ended by the economy two weeks ago.

The whole McCain game-plan since at least July has been to cast doubt about Obama's character. The only thing that's got in the way is McCain's own erratic behavior and, let's face it, reality.

So now they're going to dredge up Ayers, Rezo and Wright yet again and they actually think that's going to save their failing campaign. It's pathetic.
