Was the Stimulus Stimulating?

Steve Benen points to Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) claiming on ABC that the stimulus didn't work. This is what all GOPers say. You can hear it all the time on Fox News.

Of course the simple truth is, while the stimulus was in effect, the economy was expanding and now that the stimulus is gone, the economy is slowing down. So something had to be happening.

Then again, this is the same crowd that thinks Global Warming isn't happening and that Medicare is a bad idea.
