Part of winning back our country is winning back the English language. This observation is prompted by Dean Baker pointing out yet another "end-the-entitlements-now" article.
Back when I was a kid, we had no "entitlement" programs. The word is a creation of the 1980's. What we had were "social programs". The big difference is that you can talk about cutting "entitlement" programs all day without people realizing that you've got Social Security and Medicare in your cross-hairs.
We need to get back to the language of FDR and John Kennedy.
Ditto on dumping "estate tax" in favor of "inheritance tax".
