The Media is reporting that Democrats are divided yet again. Yes, as if close to six months of reporting on 'pumas' and the supposed irreconcilable differences between Hillary and Barack supporters weren't enough, we now have an updated version, which pits unhappy lefties against Obama's appointees.

You know it's the silly season when you start getting panicky articles like this:

Democrats are growing impatient with President-elect Barack Obama's refusal to inject himself in the major economic crises confronting the country. Obama has sidestepped some policy questions by saying there is only one president at a time. But the dodge is wearing thin....

Nice to hear George Bush waxing lyrical on all the things he'll miss once he's vacated the White House.

Not to fear however, there'll be plenty of investigations and indictments to keep him occupied.

The Bush Administration, famous for its incompetence, is sure to screw up its ultimate challenge: covering up its record of misdeeds while in power.

Out of the mouth of Tony Shipley, newly elected State Rep, on the people that elected him:

"These people are solid, hard-working, apple-pie-type Americans," Shipley said. "I have fond memories of chasing greased pigs here, so there's a long tradition of Americana here — strong Christian values here amongst these people."

In the perennial battle between bankers and zealots for the heart and soul of the Republican Party, the WaPo's Kathleen Parker comes out against the latter:

"[T]he evangelical, right-wing, oogedy-boogedy branch of the GOP is what ails the erstwhile conservative party and will continue to afflict and marginalize its constituents if reckoning doesn't soon cometh."

I hope every adult in this country points their kids to Senator Kennedy as one of the most positive examples we have of one man's commitment to the public good.

Forget all the cheap cynicism you hear all over the place -- it's being mouthed by a bunch of blockheads. This guy, Senator Kennedy, has come back practically from his deathbed to make sure everyone in this country has access to health care.

He's an example for us all.

On Election Day 2008, this was the front page of the Tribune's knockoff tabloid called the 'RedEye'. It sported the none-too-original headline 'It's in Your Hands' with five hands in front of an American flag, each hand showing one of the following issues:

I was in Berlin when the Wall came down and in New York during 9/11. One event was exceedingly good; the other was atrociously bad. I think I now have a third one that appears to be affecting me in a significant way, this one again on the good side -- namely, the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States.
