I'm not quite sure why people are making a big deal about MSM maven Mark Halperin recognizing what many of us have been calling the 'Mighty Wurlitzer' for years:

Sham Deficit Hawk Townhall in LA

Jun
27

It seems like every time there's a Democrat in the White House, the so-called Deficit Hawks come out of hibernation and suddenly start demanding we balance the budget. They did this when Clinton was in office and they're doing it again with Obama.

Have a look at this great account with wonderful analysis of a 'townhall' organized by the billionaire corporate front group, The Peterson Foundation in LA.

Better Paychecks -- Coming to a Walmart Near You

I'm not too up on the agreement between Walmart and Labor about opening a 2nd WalMart store in Chicago but Progress Illinois is reporting that part of the deal is a $8.75/hr. starting salary and then an increase of 40-60 cents after the first year.

Senate votes no on world's most stingy stimulus bill. Erza points out that with close to 10% unemployment, maybe deficit reduction isn't the most important thing:

There'll come a time when we need to start reducing the deficit. If we can get the economy back into gear, that time might even be soon. But for now, increasing the size of the deficit isn't some nasty side effect of stimulus spending. It is, quite literally, the point of the enterprise.

If First You Don't Succeed...

I don't get the thinking behind 'Was supporting Halter a complete loss or not'.

I mean, there's nothing guaranteed in politics. One of the most frequent things you run into is losing an election. You use the lessons learned and the relationships made for hopefully better results the next time round.

I mean, when FDR ran for VP in 1920 and got trounced, should he have thrown in the towel? How 'bout Obama in 2000?

Why oh Why Can't We Get Better Harvard-grad Silver-spoon Econ Bloggers with a Finer Sense of Irony?

Jun

Born on 3rd-base econ blogger, Brad DeLong obviously thinks he hit a triple when he complains that Slate isn't pissed off enough about a member of the family that owns the New York Times getting a "nepotistic promotion".

DeLong after all is the son of Harvard faculty. He went to some of the finest schools in this country including -- surprise, surprise -- Harvard University.
